Provincial police are warning that counterfeit $50 American banknotes are circulating in Ontario.

Police say a fake $50 bill was found in money deposited at a bank in Simcoe, Ont., on Tuesday.

Investigators say this is one of several incidents since last month in which counterfeit $50 American bank notes were passed to unsuspecting retailers in Norfolk County.

OPP are reminding businesses to carefully examine foreign currency and to remember that the person in possession of the bill could be an innocent victim who does not realize that the note is suspicious.
