Kerby Rychel scored the go-ahead goal on a power play in the third period to lift the Toronto Marlies to a 3-1 win over the Utica Comets on Saturday in the American Hockey League opener for both teams.
Richard Clune tied the game 1-1 in the second period and Nikita Soshnikov added some insurance for the Marlies (1-0-0) with 37 seconds left to play.
Nikolay Goldbobin scored the lone goal for Utica (0-1-0).
Garret Sparks made 19 saves for Toronto while Comets goaltender Thatcher Demko stopped 24 shots.
The Marlies were 1 for 7 on the power play. Utica scored once on two chances with the man advantage.
