Ontario's police watchdog is investigating after a woman suffered head and hip injuries while interacting with officers in Brampton.

The Special Investigations Unit says officers were looking into reports of a woman in distress just before 11 a.m. Thursday.

The SIU says the woman was in a tree and climbed higher when she saw the officers approach.

The agency says a police negotiator talked to her for hours and was coming down from the tree when the woman fell.

She was taken to hospital for treatment.

The SIU is an arm's-length agency that investigates whenever there are reports of death, serious injury or alleged sexual assault involving police.
