Ontario's police watchdog is investigating a fatal shooting in Port Perry.

The Special Investigations Unit says Durham Regional police officers were called to a house (on Waterbury Crescent) around 9:30 Saturday evening where they encountered a 59-year-old man.

The SIU says there was an interaction and the man was shot. He was rushed to hospital where he was pronounced dead.

No other details have been released.

A nine member SIU team has been assigned to the case.

The SIU is an arm's length agency that investigates reports involving police where there has been death, serious injury or allegations of sexual assault.
