A six-year-old Cambridge girl is in hospital with serious injuries after being hit by a car in the southern Ontario city.
The incident happened Tuesday as the car was leaving a parking lot.
It's alleged the car hit a van before accelerating and then hitting the girl who was standing on the sidewalk.
Police say the girl was dragged a short distance until the car crashed into a house.
She was airlifted to a hospital in nearby Hamilton.
A 33-year-old Cambridge woman has been charged with careless driving.
"It certainly appears to be a very tragic and very rare type of incident," said Olaf Heinzel, a spokesman for Waterloo regional police.
"We're still determining what exactly was happening with the driver that would cause the driver to take this kind of an action."
