Garret Sparks stopped all 19 shots he faced and the Toronto Marlies used a big third period to blank the St. John's IceCaps 3-0 on Sunday afternoon in American Hockey League action.

Andrew Nielsen, Byron Froese and Brendan Leipsic, into an empty net, had goals for Toronto (9-4-1), the AHL affiliate of the Maple Leafs.

Charlie Lindgren turned away 37-of-39 shots for the IceCaps (9-8-1), Montreal's farm club.

The Marlies went 1 for 4 on the power play while St. John's was scoreless on six attempts with the man advantage.
