Officers on street patrol in a southwestern Ontario community are being credited for catching a couple of teenage graffiti artists red-handed or, in this case, blue-handed.

Provincial police say an investigation was launched after dozens of obscene tags were found in downtown Leamington, southeast of Windsor, over a two-month period.

Most were done in blue and police say the artwork was very poor quality and the tags did not appear to be gang related.

During their patrols, officers came across two young males with blue paint on them who were carrying blue paint cans.

Further investigation determined they had similar artwork and wording on their school books and belongings.

Both teens are charged with 37 counts of mischief under $5,000.
