Toronto police say a 17-year-old boy is facing gun-related charges after another teen accidentally shot himself in the leg.
Police say a 13-year-old boy told officers on Sunday that he was struck by a single bullet shot from a vehicle.
Investigators say the boy later confessed he made up the drive-by shooting story after he accidentally shot himself with a gun allegedly given to him by the 17-year-old.
Police allege that after the shooting, the 17-year-old brought the younger teen to a nearby corner and told him to call police with the fake story.
The boy was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Police have charged the 17-year-old boy, who cannot be named under the Youth Criminal Justice Act, with various gun-related offences, obstructing justice and public mischief.
