Ontario's police watchdog says a sexual assault charge is being laid against a Waterloo Region police officer.
The Special Investigations Unit says it has reasonable grounds to believe an alleged sexual assault was committed when the officer and the complainant were at the Ontario Police College in Aylmer, Ont., in April 2015.
The SIU says Det.-Const. Zachary Gent is facing a charge of sexual assault and is expected to appear in court July 26.
It says it will make no further comment on the case as it is now before the courts.
The SIU is an arm's length agency that investigates reports involving police where there has been death, serious injury or allegations of sexual assault.
