A 63-year-old Bracebridge woman is in critical condition after a fire at an apartment building in Bracebridge.

Ontario Provincial Police responded to an apartment fire on the ground floor of a two-storey apartment complex (at 19 Monck Road), which was fully engulfed in flames.

Firefighters entered the apartment and located an unconscious woman, who was taken to a local hospital and then airlifted to Sunnybrook Hospital in Toronto with life-threatening injuries.

Police say 63-year-old Gwendolyn Cartwright is in critical condition and her two dogs in the apartment died.

All other residents of the complex were evacuated without injury.

Police say the apartment had working fire alarms and the cause of the fire is under investigation.
