Public health officials say a patient at a Montreal hospital has tested negative for Ebola.

The regional health authority said earlier Tuesday the patient began exhibiting symptoms after returning from an Ebola-stricken part of Africa.

Tests results came back negative for the patient, whose gender and identity have not been released.

The case marks the seventh time since the Ebola outbreak in Africa that authorities have isolated a patient in Quebec.

None of the Quebec cases have come back positive and there have been no confirmed cases elsewhere in Canada.

Public health officials have said Ebola spreads through direct contact with the bodily fluids of someone infected with the virus.

The current Ebola outbreak has claimed over 9,000 lives in West Africa.
