Would-be thieves ripped the facade of a building in east-end Montreal Monday evening in a failed bid to steal an automatic banking machine.
The ATM remains anchored inside a credit union in a strip mall in the Pointe-aux-Trembles neighbourhood.
Police say the attempted robbery occurred at about 10:40 p.m., adding the bandits left behind a cable used to try to snatch the device.
Police also say that about 15 minutes before the attempted theft, a vehicle was set ablaze in the same neighbourhood.
The bandits apparently lit the fire to create a diversion.
No arrests have been made as police look at surveillance camera tape to assist in the investigation.
