A 31-year-old woman charged after five suspicious packages were found in Saskatoon says she was framed.

Alexa Emerson, also known as Amanda May Totchek, has pleaded not guilty to 15 charges, including mischief and uttering threats.

She has also waived her bail option.

Defence lawyer Brian Pfefferle says his client is being framed.

Five packages containing a white substance were delivered to three downtown businesses and two hotels in the city's north end last week.

The packages, which were later determined to contain baking soda and talcum powder, prompted a large-scale emergency response and led police to shut down numerous city blocks.

"When this event is alleged to have occurred, she was in custody at the time and is frankly shocked that she's being implicated by police in the case," Pfefferle said outside Saskatoon court.

Emerson returns to court Jan. 6.
