A 40-year-old man from Alaska is accused of trying to smuggle guns into Saskatchewan from the U.S.

Robert Michael Grimsley tried to cross the border into Canada at the North Portal Crossing in Saskatchewan last week.

Border security officials say Grimsley didn't declare any firearms.

When officers searched the truck, they say they found two long guns, a .50 calibre and a .22 calibre, hidden in the trailer, and a .45 calibre handgun that had been broken down into pieces and hidden throughout the truck.

Grimsley was arrested and charged with three counts under the Customs Act, and one criminal charge.

He was released and is due in court next month.
