An immigrant man working as a cab driver in Regina is in a coma after violence broke out in his vehicle earlier this week.

Police say it appears there was an altercation inside the taxi, which continued after the 31-year-old driver stopped and tried to get out of the vehicle.

He was stabbed three times, once in the neck.

"They came for a better life, you don't think it'll happen like this. This is a nice country," the cabbie's boss, Daljit Singh, told CTV Regina. "His wife is just crying."

He said the victim came to Canada three months ago with his wife and three-year-old son.

Police were called Thursday evening after numerous calls of a person in distress.

When officers arrive, several people were at the scene trying to help the injured driver, who was taken to hospital in critical condition.

A 24-year-old man who was also injured is still in hospital while a 22-year-old male was treated and released.

A 20-year-old man who did not need medical help was taken into custody.

Police believe all four men are connected to the same incident, which is being investigated as attempted murder.
