The lawyer of a man accused of killing a two-year-old girl says he was framed for murder.

Adam Cyr is charged with second-degree murder in the death of Natalia Shingoose, who died of injuries from blunt force trauma.

Court was told she was beaten multiple times.

Cyr was the live-in boyfriend of the child's mother, Amanda Trevors, and had been left to take care of Natalia while Trevors went to work one afternoon.

In his final arguments Monday, Crown prosecutor James Fitz-Gerald said Cyr had exclusive opportunity to kill the child because he was alone in the house for eight hours with no witnesses.

But defence lawyer Bob Hrycan argued that police interviews of Trevors and her friend Matthew Bennett show there were other adults in the home that day.

The judge will charge the 12-person jury on Wednesday morning.
