The Saskatchewan Urban Municipalities Association wants the province to pass a law making it mandatory for cyclists to wear helmets.
Prince Albert city councillor Martin Ring says Saskatchewan is one of four provinces that doesn't have such legislation.
SUMA delegates have agreed to lobby the province to introduce such a law.
The Saskatchewan Prevention Institute says four out of five cycling-related deaths in Saskatchewan are associated with head injuries.
It says wearing a helmets reduces the risk of head and brain injuries and that young people are most vulnerable.
Last May the institute noted that only 17 per cent of people under the age of 20 wear a helmet every time they bicycle. (CKOM)
