One person has been shot in what a witness describes as a "shootout" between police and a suspect in downtown Saskatoon.
Police confirm shots were fired and someone was taken to hospital after officers were called to a report of a vehicle theft in progress, but they haven't released further details.
Witness Barry Steiner tells CTV Saskatoon he saw police with guns drawn and heard numerous shots as officers including one with a police dog chased a suspect on foot through the city's downtown streets on Wednesday.
Steiner says there were four or five shots fired and then he saw a man get out of a car and run down Fourth Avenue.
He says police gave chase and more shots were fired.
The police department said in a Tweet that because there is no threat to public safety, no public update will be provided on the incident until Thursday.
"It was almost like watching a taping of a TV show or something," says Steiner. "It seemed almost surreal, but obviously they were real police cars and real police. We were half a block away from the shootout."
