Auston Matthews scored a hat trick and Alex Nedeljkovic made 28 saves as the United States routed the Czech Republic 7-0 on Saturday in quarter-final action at the world junior hockey championship.
Nick Schmaltz had a goal and two assists for the Americans, who will face Russia in the semifinals on Monday. Christian Dvorak, Alex Debrincat and Scott Eansor rounded out the attack.
Vitek Vanecek started in net for the Czechs, but was relieved after turning aside 8-of-10 shots in 20 minutes. Ales Stezka went the rest of the way, making 20 saves.
