Wales-born Geraint John has resigned as head coach of the Australian rugby sevens team, a year out from the sport's debut at the Rio de Janiero Olympics.
The Australian Rugby Union says Monday that John, who served as head coach and director of sevens since June, 2014, resigned for personal reasons and would return to Britain at the end of the month.
The current coach of the Australian women's sevens team, Tim Walsh, will take over from John in an interim capacity while a permanent replacement is sought.
ARU General manager Ben Whittaker said while the ARU is disappointed to lose John "We do, however, have the right structure in place to ensure this won't negatively impact either the men's or women's players or the program in general."
