Fullback Israel Folau has taken quick advantage of his flexible Australian Rugby Union contract, announcing Thursday that he'll play Top League rugby in Japan at the end of the year.
Folau said he's signed with the Osaka-based NTT Docomo Red Hurricanes. The news comes just 24 hours after he signed a new three-year contract with the ARU that will allow him to compete overseas between his assignments with the Wallabies and the New South Wales Waratahs in Super Rugby.
Folau said on Twitter that he's "excited to confirm I will be a NTT Docomo Red Hurricanes player following the 2015 World Cup!!"
The Rugby World Cup in Wales and England ends in late October. The Japan season runs from August to February, so Folau will miss the first part of the Hurricanes' season.
