Austria centre back Kevin Wimmer has joined Tottenham on a five-year deal from German club Cologne as the English Premier League side moved to improve its leaky defence.
The transfer fee for the 22-year-old defender was not disclosed by Spurs when the deal was announced Friday.
Wimmer joined Cologne from Austrian side Linz in 2012 and has been a regular for the Bundesliga side, helping it earn promotion in 2014.
Wimmer will compete with Jan Vertonghen, Federico Fazio, Eric Dier and Younes Kaboul for a centre-back spot at Spurs, which had the joint-fifth worst defensive record in the league last season.
