Lionel Messi and Barcelona topped the final AP Global Football 10 poll on Tuesday, receiving the highest amount of votes over the season.
Messi finished the season with 56 goals for Barcelona, which completed the treble after beating Juventus 3-1 in the Champions League final in Berlin. Barcelona also won the Spanish league and Copa del Rey.
Cristiano Ronaldo was second to Messi in the player vote, and Real Madrid was second to Barcelona in the team standings.
"We sing the greatness of Barcelona, and rightly so," Tom Timmermann of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch in the United States said. "Real Madrid, which has a really great team, might well have won in any other league on the planet, but happened to be in the same nation as Barcelona, the same nation as a team that has a guy named Messi."
Madrid failed to win a major trophy this season, despite embarking on a 22-game winning run from September until January.
Chelsea was third after winning the English Premier League by eight points. Juventus was fourth after taking its fourth straight Serie A title, the Italian Cup and finishing runner-up in the Champions League.
"Juventus took a bit of a tumble in Berlin over the weekend but that need not define the season," Chris Tait of The Herald in Scotland said. "They will come to appreciate the success of a domestic double, while the club has also restored some of the lustre which Italian football has lost in recent years."
Bundesliga winner Bayern Munich was fifth. Atletico Madrid, Paris Saint-Germain, Manchester City, Arsenal and Manchester United completed the top 10.
Neymar took third in the player of the season rankings. The Barcelona striker scored 38 times, including the third goal in the Champions League final.
"This ranking can be presenting a trend for the future: the establishment of Neymar as 'the third way,' the player who will be behind Messi and Ronaldo in world rankings of best players," Ubiratan Leal of trivela.com in Brazil said. "If that happens, the Brazilian will have to know what to do to take the next step."
Luis Suarez took fourth after scoring 25 goals in his debut season at Barcelona, and Juventus striker Carlos Tevez was fifth after spearheading his team's attack in their double-winning season.
"For me, no doubt: this was Carlos Tevez's season," Federico Giammaria of La Voz in Argentina said. "Leader, winner, a huge heart and a great talent, the Argentine showed he can play and win anywhere in the world."
Diego Costa, Arjen Robben, Sergio Aguero, Antoine Griezmann and Zlatan Ibrahimovic rounded out the top 10.
