The Toronto Blue Jays acquired some infield depth on Saturday, picking up Cliff Pennington and cash considerations from the Arizona Diamondbacks.
Minor league shortstop Dawel Lugo is heading to the Diamondbacks as part of the trade.
Pennington is batting .237 this season in 72 games for Arizona. The 31-year-old has three doubles, one home run and 10 runs batted in in 135 at-bats.
The switch-hitter is a career .248 hitter with 28 home runs, 200 RBIs and 80 stolen bases over eight seasons with the Oakland Athletics (2008-2012) and the Diamondbacks (2013-2015).
Pennington has appeared in 564 games at shortstop, 106 at second base, 31 at third base and five in the outfield.
