Ridden by Santiago Gonzalez, Bobby Z Man ran 6 1/2 furlongs on the downhill turf course in 1:13.27 and paid $11.40, $5 and $3.40 at 9-2 odds.
Indexical returned $3.20 and $2.60 as the 2-1 favourite, while Home School was another 1 1/4 lengths back in third and paid $3 to show.
The victory, worth $36,000, increased Bobby Z Man's career earnings to $200,512, with five wins in 14 starts.
In the second race, superstar mare Zenyatta's first foal, Cozmic One, made a disappointing 3-year-old debut, finishing sixth and last in the one-mile race as the 9-5 second choice.
