Dana Cranston had eight points as Canada wrapped up preliminary play at the NORCECA women's continental volleyball championship with a 3-0 victory over Costa Rica on Tuesday.
Set scores were 25-15, 25-12, 25-10.
Jaimie Thibeault, Marisa Field and Rebecca Pavan had five points apiece for the Canadians, who finished the first round of the tournament 2-1 to advance to the quarter-finals. The top four teams advance to the NORCECA Olympic qualification tournament.
"We were disciplined," said team captain Brittney Page. "We focused on our game and power to hold off Costa Rica's good defence and not let them play."
Mijal Hines had six points and Evelyn Sibaja contributed five for Costa Rica, which moved on to the classification round with an 0-3 record.
"Our service worked well, and we were concentrated and focused on controlling their two best servers, making it easier for us," said Canada's coach Arnd Ludwig. "The second line-up did very well and we really have a shot to finish in the final four."
Canada outnumbered Costa Rica in spikes (29-16), blocks (9-2) and aces (6-1) and scored on 31 errors.
