Powerful hitter Gavin Schmitt will lead Canada's men's volleyball team at the 2015 Pan American Games.

Schmitt, who plays professionally with Brazilian club Funvic Taubate, starred for Canada at the 2014 world championship in Poland, leading his team in scoring in six of the seven matches he played in. Canada finished seventh in the tournament, the country's best ever result.

The women's team will feature a young roster including Shanice Marcelle, who won the CIS female athlete of the year award in 2013 during her time with the UBC Thinderbirds.

Canada's men's team qualified for the FIVB World Cup after winning gold at the Champions Cup in Detroit last month, beating the U.S in the process.

The is currently competing at the Pan Am Cup in Peru, and has won its first three matches of the competition.

The volleyball competition will take place at Exhibition Centre Hall A, with the women competing July 16-25 and the men competing July 17-26.
