Canadian Olympians will be wearing patriotic jewelry made by a Regina-based company at the opening ceremony of the Rio Games on Friday.

Jeweller Hillberg & Berk won a partnership agreement with the Canadian Olympic team, meaning athletes will be wearing red sparkle ball earrings from the company.

CEO and founder Rachel Mielke says the company specifically looks for opportunities and partnerships where they can help support and empower women.

"Not only is it an awesome opportunity for us to have our product on a world stage, but also a part of the proceeds of all the sales of the earrings are going to back to the athletes that are going to Rio to help them with training," Mielke told CJME News Talk Radio in Regina.

Mielke calls the opportunity to be part of the athletes Olympic experience, from the opening ceremonies to winning medals, a "dream come true".

"Everyone in our whole company is just so excited about it," she said.

The public can purchase the same earrings that will be worn by the athletes in Rio. It is available at any Hillberg & Berk store and online.
