Jesse Mills threw for 337 yards and three touchdowns as the Carleton Ravens thumped the Queen's Gaels 39-8 in OUA quarter-final playoff action Saturday.
It's Carleton's first playoff victory since 1986, and first since the Ravens restarted their Canadian Interuniversity Sport football program in 2013 after a 14-year hiatus.
"It's a big step," said Carleton head coach Steve Sumarah. "(Queen's) knocked us out last year, and to be able to come in and play as well as we did on all three sides of the ball is a testament to the work the coaches and players put in this week."
Carleton jumped out to a 21-0 lead in the first quarter after a two-yard rushing touchdown from Jahvari Bennett, a 45-yard catch-and-run touchdown reception from Wilson Birchand and a 42-yard TD strike from Nate Behar.
The Ravens effectively ended the game when they opened the fourth quarter with Mills' 78-year touchdown toss to Cedric Soares.
"I thought they beat us everywhere," Gaels coach Pat Sheahan said. "It was unfortunate they got on us early, we knew we had to have a good start and we didn't have that. We didn't have any answers either we just didn't get much time to feel them out, and they made some big plays early."
Carleton will face Guelph in next week's OUA semifinals.
