Brazilians Alison Cerutti and Bruno Oscar Schmidt saved five match points to beat Dutch pair Reinder Nummerdor and Christiaan Varenhorst 12-21, 21-14, 22-20 Sunday and win the men's beach volleyball world championship.

With the Dutch king and queen in the sell-out crowd on a beach built on a lake adjoining the Dutch parliament, the Netherlands dominated the first set before Brazil recovered to take the second and then held out in the longest third set of the tournament.

On Saturday, Brazil swept the podium in the women's tournament, with Barbara Seixas and Agatha Bednarczuk beating fellow Brazilian pair Taiana Lima and Fernanda Alves in the final.

The Dutch were looking to make it two men's world titles in a row, after Alexander Brouwer and Robert Meeuwsen won in 2013.
