The San Diego Chargers have signed veteran centre J.D. Walton and promoted tackle Tyreek Burwell from the team's practice squad.

The moves were necessary due to a number of injuries to offensive linemen in Sunday's loss at Minnesota.

Walton started all 16 games at centre for the New York Giants in 2014. He played for the Denver Broncos when their offensive co-ordinator was Mike McCoy, now in his third season as Chargers coach.

The Chargers also re-signed guard Michael Huey to the practice squad.
