Charles Cooke scored 18 points and grabbed six rebounds as Dayton beat William & Mary 69-66 on Saturday.

Cooke hit 7 of 8 of his free throws for the Flyers (3-0). Steve McElvene scored 12 points with nine rebounds and Kendall Pollard had 11 points. The team hit 47.2 per cent from the field overall and 72.2 per cent from the line.

Dayton fell behind 27-16 late in the first half and trailed 30-21 at the break.

Cooke dropped a 3-pointer to spark an 11-3 run midway through the second period and the Flyers took 53-49 lead with 8:26 to play. They trailed by two with 1:20 left but Cooke went 4 of 4 from the line and Kyle Davis hit a layup to put the Flyers back on top, 66-62 with 52 seconds to play and they held on for the win.

Daniel Dixon led the Tribe (3-1) with 24 points.
