The Canadian Interuniversity Sport men's basketball championship will return to Halifax's Scotiabank Centre in 2017 and 2018.

The Dalhousie Tigers will receive the host entry for the 2017 tournament while the Acadia Axemen will get the automatic berth the following year, the CIS said Monday in a release.

The annual competition was played at the downtown venue for 24 straight years from 1984 to 2007, and again in 2011 and 2012.

The Carleton Ravens won the 2015 tournament at Toronto's Ryerson University. The University of British Columbia will host the 2016 event from March 17-20 in Vancouver.

Dates for the 2017 and 2018 tournaments will be announced at a later date.
