Gary Clark hit 9 of 10 shots and all three of his free throws for a career-high 21 points and Cincinnati opened the season by rolling over Western Carolina 97-72 on Friday night.

Octavius Ellis added 17 points, making 8 of 11 shots, and 10 rebounds for the Bearcats, who shot 61 per cent for the game and out-rebounded the Catamounts 43-27.

Mike Brown led Western Carolina with 23 points.

Cincinnati rolled to a 42-22 lead at the half, limiting the Catamounts to 23 per cent shooting. Farad Cobb made back-to-back 3-pointers as the Bearcats ended the half on a 10-1 run.

Cobb made all three of his shots behind the arc and finished with 11 points. Coreontae DeBerry made four of five shots and matched that from the foul line to score 12 points.
