Tim Erixon, Carter Rowney, and Dominik Simon supplied the rest of the offence for the Penguins (9-1-0), who have won eight straight games.
Daniel Carr scored the lone goal for St. John's (6-5-2), the AHL-affiliate of the Montreal Canadiens.
Matt Murray made 20 saves for the victory while Eddie Pasquale stopped 26 of 29 shots in the losing effort.
Wilkes-Barre/Scranton was 1 for 4 on the power play while the IceCaps failed to score on three chances with the man advantage.
