A look at five storylines to watch Friday as Olympic competition continues in Rio de Janeiro:

---

TRAMPOLINE QUEEN — Trampoline star Rosie MacLennan of King City, Ont., puts her Olympic title on the line. The lone Canadian gold medallist from London four years ago, MacLennan struggled with concussion issues in the lead-up to Rio, but the Canadian flag-bearer says she's regained her form and is ready to defend her gold.

---

RIVALRY RENEWED — Canada's women's soccer team will once again meet France at the Olympics, this time in the quarter-finals. The 10th-ranked Canadian women beat the French 1-0 for bronze at the London 2012 Games. France, ranked third in the world, has beat Canada in its last three matches. The Canadians finished atop Group F with three victories after a historic win over Germany on Tuesday.

---

DOUBLE SHOT — Canada's rowers will have two chances to make the podium — assuming the weather co-operates. The schedule has been thrown into chaos throughout the regatta due to high winds and choppy water at Lagoa Stadium. Victoria's Lindsay Jennerich and Patricia Obee are seen as the team's best medal threat in the lightweight women's double sculls, but the men's four could also be in the mix.

---

TRACK ATTACK — Heptathlete Brianne Theisen-Eaton of Humboldt, Sask., begins her quest for gold as the track and field meet begins. Theisen-Eaton is part of a surging Canadian team that captured five medals at the 2015 world championships. Evan Dunfee of Richmond, B.C., also competes in the men's 20-kilometre race walk along with Vancouver's Inaki Gomez and Ben Thorne of Kitimat, B.C. Lanni Marchant of London, Ont., and Vancouver's Natasha Wodak are competing in the women's 10,000 metres.

---

REDEMPTION FOR RYAN — Victoria's Ryan Cochrane is back in the pool for the 1,500-metre freestyle heats. A two-time medallist in the event, Cochrane will be looking to rebound after failing to make the final in the 400 freestyle last week. Meantime, four medals will be up for grabs Friday. In women's races, the 200-metre backstroke and 800-metre freestyle will be determined. Meanwhile in men's competition, the 100-metre butterfly and 50-metre freestyle finals will take place.
