J.C. Fuller scored a career-high 29 points, Garret Covington scored 26, and Western Illinois outscored Eastern Illinois 50-26 in the second half en route to an 83-63 win Saturday night.
Fuller and Covington combined to make 17 of 29 field-goal attempts for Western Illinois (4-0), with both shooting 4 of 6 from beyond the arc. Covington added seven rebounds and three assists.
Trailing 40-38 with 18:34 left, Fuller turned a steal into a made jumper to tie it at 40. Then Covington stole and assisted on Fuller's dunk before Covington made a 3-pointer assisted by Fuller to give the Leathernecks a five-point lead.
Casey Teson made four 3-pointers for Eastern Illinois (0-3), scoring 12 points. Cornell Johnston had 11 points, five rebounds and four assists.
Western Illinois shot 55 per cent from the field and 56 per cent from deep.
