Guillermo Garcia-Lopez of Spain upset second-seeded Kevin Anderson of South Africa 6-4, 3-6, 6-1 in the second round of the Estoril Open on Thursday.

Garcia-Lopez, champion in Zagreb in February and in Bucharest last weekend, won their matchup for the first time in three tries.

Eighth-seeded Gilles Muller of Luxembourg saved three match points as he rallied to beat Albert Montanes of Spain 4-6, 6-3, 7-6 (7), and Borna Coric of Croatia bested Rui Machado of Portugal 6-4, 5-7, 6-1.

Muller said his confidence grew as the match progressed, and eventually he "felt like trying more stuff on the court, and I did."

Also, Pablo Carreno Busta of Spain eased past countryman David Vega Hernandez 6-1, 6-2.

Garcia-Lopez goes on to play Coric, and Carreno Busta meets Muller in the quarterfinals on Friday.
