Borussia Dortmund attacking midfielder Marco Reus has been ruled out of Germany's European Championship qualifiers against Poland and Scotland after breaking his big toe in his left foot.

The German Football Federation says Reus suffered the injury while playing for Dortmund against Hertha Berlin in the Bundesliga on Sunday.

Reus travelled Wednesday to meet his national teammates in Frankfurt, where the injury was diagnosed. Treatment will be carried out by Dortmund.

The 26-year-old was ruled out of Germany's 2014 World Cup-winning campaign with a left ankle injury sustained in the last friendly before the tournament, and suffered two more ankle injuries after making his comeback.

Reus made just 20 league appearances for Dortmund last season.

Germany hosts Poland in Frankfurt on Friday before playing Scotland in Glasgow on Monday.
