Brett Olson had an empty-net goal and an assist and Mike McKenna stopped 26 shots as the Portland Pirates downed the St. John's IceCaps 4-1 on Wednesday in American Hockey League action.
Mackenzie Weegar, Rocco Grimaldi and John McFarland also scored for the Pirates (25-15-1).
Nikita Scherbak had the lone goal for the IceCaps (19-15-9), spoiling McKenna's shutout bid 14:38 into the third period.
Zachary Fucale made 23 saves.
Portland was 1 for 8 on the power play. St. John's failed to score on four chances with the man advantage.
