Shaq Goodwin scored 15 points and had nine rebounds and Memphis led the entire game with a 67-49 win over Southern Mississippi in the season opener for both teams Saturday night.
The Tigers' Dedric Lawson finished with 13 points and Trashon Burrell had 11. Memphis surged to a 24-6 lead and was never threatened.
Memphis played efficiently on offence and only committed seven turnovers to 19 for the Golden Eagles.
Southern Miss did manage to hold a rebounding edge against the Tigers 48-37.
Eddie Davis scored 13 points for the Eagles who managed only 27 per cent shooting for the game. Michael Ramey had 10 points for the Golden Eagles.
