The Montreal Impact traded the rights to defender Zarek Valentin to the Portland Timbers in exchange for an international roster spot on Tuesday.
Valentin played in Montreal's first Major League Soccer campaign in 2012 and spent the last three seasons in Europe.
The move gives Montreal nine international roster spots for the 2016 season.
