Ireland has omitted winger Andrew Trimble from its 31-man squad for the Rugby World Cup, but selected prop Cian Healy as he recovers from neck surgery in May.

Ireland coach Joe Schmidt picked just two scrumhalves — Conor Murray and Eoin Reddan — to make room for an extra centre in Darren Cave, who was preferred to Gordon D'Arcy in a move that likely spells the end of the 35-year-old's international career.

New Zealand-born prop Nathan White became, at age 33, Ireland's third-oldest debutant of all time last month during the warm-up games and did enough to earn selection. Fellow prop Tadhg Furlong made his test debut against Wales on Saturday and is also called up.

Lock Paul O'Connell, who will retire after the World Cup, captains the squad.
