Ishmael Lane scored 25 points with nine rebounds and Northwestern State held off Division III member Louisiana College 86-80 on Wednesday.

Lane was 9 of 12 from the floor and Northwestern State (1-4) shot 51 per cent as a team. Zeek Woodley and Sabri Thompson both added 15 points. Woodley had six boards and Thompson had six assists.

Northwestern State used a 10-2 run midway through the first — including 3-pointers by Bailey Walker and Thompson — to turn a tie game into a 47-41 lead at intermission.

Louisiana College got within four with 48 seconds left after Anthony Gaines Jr made 3 of 4 from the line. But Thompson and Devonte Hall both made a pair at the line and the Demons held on.

Gaines and Kevin Lewis had 21 points apiece to pace Louisiana College, while Kevin Cottonham added 18.
