Joe Launchbury will make his first England appearance in a year after being selected in a team to play the Barbarians on Sunday, when a slew of fringe players can stake a claim for places in the Rugby World Cup squad.

The lock only returned to action for English club Wasps this month after being out since October with a neck injury.

The England team for the match at Twickenham contains 10 players who were named this month in a 45-man World Cup training squad, including flyhalf Danny Cipriani and highly rated centre Elliot Daly.

Fullback Mathew Tait plays his first international since 2010.

England coach Stuart Lancaster says "this is an exciting group of players who will be eager to impress in an England shirt with a number of guys having one eye on the World Cup in September."

The Barbarians beat Ireland 22-21 on Thursday.
