Kenny Jones scored 23 points and Austin Peay held on to defeat Samford 74-73 on Saturday.

Jones was 10 of 12 from the floor for the Governors (3-4). Josh Robinson had 15 points, Khalil Davis added 13 and Chris Horton had 12 points and 13 rebounds.

Jamal Shabazz led Samford (5-2) with 24 points. Christen Cunningham and Matt Rose had 13 points apiece and Darius Jones-Gibson added 10.

Austin Peay scored the last six points of the first half to lead 42-30 at the break. Robinson's 3-pointer to start the second half pushed the advantage to 15.

Samford responded with an 8-2 run to get it back under double digits and continued to chip away. Rose's 3-pointer with 51 seconds left made it a 2-point game, but Robinson made a bucket inside, then hit a pair of free throws to go up four. Shabazz nailed a 3 with 2 seconds left, but Samford couldn't get the ball back.
