Canada made local girl Melissa Tancredi captain on the occasion of her 100th cap Friday in a friendly against England.

The 33-year-old forward from nearby Ancaster led the Canadian soccer team out at Tim Hortons Field in its last match before the June 6 kickoff of the Women's World Cup.

Christine Sinclair normally captains Canada.

Known as Tank, Tancredi took two years off after the 2012 Olympics to complete her studies to become a chiropractor.
