Lyon fell to its first defeat of the season, losing 2-1 at home to Rennes on Saturday as Mehdi Zeffane set up the opener before scoring the winner against his former club.
In the evening matches, Reims and Caen failed to maintain their perfect start to the season as they lost 1-0 at Nantes and 2-1 at Nice, respectively.
Nantes moved second along with Angers and Bastia, which won against Ajaccio and Guignamp. They are two points behind Paris Saint-Germain, which beat Montpellier 1-0 on Friday.
Lyon is five points behind PSG.
"It's a difficult day because we weren't up to it and we fell into the trap that Rennes had set for us with their game plan," Lyon coach Hubert Fournier said. "They had two shots and two goals. We were lacking too much to have a hope of winning the match."
Rennes took the lead in the eighth minute when Lyon defender Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa lost the ball just inside his own half and Zeffane set up Pedro Henrique, who raced into the area and fired across into the bottom right corner.
Lyon, last year's runner-up, reacted immediately and levelled four minutes later when Nabil Fekir's volley was deflected past Benoit Costil following a well-worked team move.
Zeffane, who progressed through the ranks at Lyon before moving to Rennes in the off-season, netted the winner 11 minutes into the second half with his first top-flight goal.
In Nantes, on-loan Rennes defender Ermir Lenjani broke the deadlock in the 76th minute following a good run from midfield to score his first goal in France.
Caen also slipped from second as Nice collected its first win of the season.
Hatem Ben Arfa opened the scoring in the 66th minute but Andy Delort levelled for Caen straight from the restart. Alassane Plea restored Nice's advantage 10 minutes later.
Julian Palmieri struck twice in the first half to send Bastia on its way to a 3-0 win. Guignamp dominated the second half but failed to create clear-cut chances and Lassana Coulibaly sealed the win in stoppage time.
Angers maintained its third clean sheet in as many games as captain Cheikh N'Doye scored two first-half goals for a 2-0 victory at Ajaccio.
Elsewhere, Monaco failed to boost its confidence ahead of the second leg of its Champions League playoff against Valencia — where it trails 3-1 — as it drew 1-1 at Toulouse.
Thomas Lemar beat two players before unleashing a superb 20-yard strike to level for Monaco shortly after the hour mark after Tongo Doumbia had opened the scoring in the 22nd minute.
