Maryland guard Dion Wiley will miss an estimated four months after undergoing surgery to repair a torn right meniscus.

Coach Mark Turgeon delivered the news Tuesday, calling it "a big loss for our team."

Turgeon says Wiley was expected to start a shooting guard for the third-ranked Terrapins, who open their season Friday night at home against Mount Saint Mary's.

Wiley appeared in all 35 games as a freshman last season for a team that won a school-record 26 games and advanced to the NCAA Tournament. He averaged 4.1 points and 1.5 rebounds per game and scored a career-high 19 points and against VMI.
