The Melbourne Storm and St. George Illawarra Dragons joined Brisbane atop the National Rugby League standings with 10 points each after seventh-round matches.
Melbourne halfback Cooper Cronk's field goal with 45 seconds left sealed a 17-16 win over the Sydney Roosters. It was the third win in a row for the Storm, who are in first place with a better goal differential, and the Roosters' third consecutive loss.
English front rower Mike Cooper powered over for the clinching try and fellow countryman Gareth Widdop added the decisive extra two points as St. George Illawarra beat Brisbane 12-10.
The Dragons, with the best defence in the league, held off a late flurry of attacking raids from the Broncos to win their fifth match in a row.
"Considering we didn't really touch the ball in their half for the first 15 minutes of the second half, it showed some real character," St. George Illawarra coach Paul McGregor said.
Canberra trailed 22-0 after 25 minutes but rebounded for a record 30-22 comeback win over the Wests Tigers. It eclipsed the Raiders' previous best when they came back from 20-2 against Manly in 1998.
Also on Sunday, Parramatta beat the Newcastle Knights 28-22.
Halfback Ken Elgey set up two first-half tries as Gold Coast beat Penrith 32-6, while the North Queensland Cowboys came from 12-0 down after eight minutes to beat the New Zealand Warriors 28-24.
Josh Reynolds scored three tries as Canterbury handed last-place Manly its sixth loss in seven matches, 28-16.
Cronulla takes on defending champions South Sydney on Monday to conclude the seventh round.
